Oklahoma City and the Oklahoma State Fair Grounds are what I call the finest indoor show facility in America. Almost every barn is connected by an overhead canopy to shelter from the rain all the way to the show ring. Modern stalls that are high quality, safe and functional, good footing and a show ring that speaks volumes to what a true National Championship venue should be. The finest Morgan show horses, versatile in more ways than almost any other breed, presented in Harness, Halter, Hunter, English, Western, Carriage and many more make up the Morgan Grand National and World Championship Horse Show.
Our journey started on the 9th, as Nicole drove the truck (FAV) and trailer for almost 14 hours from Lexington to OKC. I'm so lucky to have Nicole do this for me and the company, as I got to fly out on the 10th. As Nicole drove along with her Bouviers des Flandres Beorn and Django, who will stop on the way home to be shown by Nicole at the Bouvier Nationals in St. Louis, and her side kick Papillon Ripley, I got to spend another day at the Toronto shop working on finishing up a beautiful black leather and chrome fitting four in hand harness for Glenn Werry's Hackney team.
Nicole has done the entire packing and set up for the show and we have a great location right beside Howie Schatzberg. Our booth space this year will feature all of our Morgan horse equipment, including both our LTD Edition Fine Harness that we make in memory of my father Sam, as it's a true testament of harness making quality, and our popular Grand National Fine Harness. This year we will also show a set in chrome finished buckles, as white metal has been gaining popularity among the breeds the last few years.
Our hottest product, the World Cup Super Grip Saddle, will be on display as well. Here we will fit many riders to saddles to get that "correct fit and feel", along with some horse saddle fittings as well. Prospective saddle buyers can be expertly fit for a saddle and even take one out for a test ride.
We will introduce a new Hunter saddle specially designed for Morgans and Arabians and "Hunt Seat Showing" for these breeds. This new saddle has been in development for over a year. Its close contact with a square cantle, promotes shoulder release for better action, and has a tree that fits these breeds excellently. We finished it off by using our Super Grip leather. Rider timing will be greatly improved with this leather along, with providing added security .
Our new line of training tack, the Advantage Comfort Training Equipment range, will be introduced in OKC as well. This range of equipment has been in testing and development for almost three years. We had a soft launch at the Kentucky State Fair's World's Championship American Saddlebred Show and it was very well received. Finally ready to go to market, this tack features a very special double stuffed leather from Wicket and Craig of America, the tannery Freedman's has been with since my grandfather came to Canada in 1910! Also featured with this amazing leather is stainless steel hardware. Three different Cavesons, two different widths of reins, a martingale and two varieties of snap bridles are in the offering this week. Inspired primarily by Arabian and American saddlebred trainers, this equipment has had Morgan trainers input as well, teaching us what is needed to train everyday at the optimum level, using the best equipment available at a moderate price. Check out the range on our new website when you have a chance.
In addition to all of these great products, we will have our new Kensington Canvas and Leather Travel Bag Collection and a plethora of belts and hand bags, along with our famous Bustles, Super Bustles, Bridles, Brow Bands and accessories. Stop by and visit!
If you dont find Nicole or me in the booth, then you guessed it, we're standing in observation of what can be learned on the rail!
