What Inspired Us To Make This Bag:
The governess handbag is named after the Governess cart. A small two-wheeled pony-drawn cart. The purpose of the cart was to be light enough to be drawn by a well-tempered pony or cob, who would be gentle enough, according to the mores of the time, to be handled by a lady. This gave rise to the cart's name, as they were frequently used by governesses to transport their child charges. The governess rode in the cart with the passengers, where they could easily be observed.
This small Shoulder Bag is a Freedman’s staple design shape. We have been using this shape since the 70’s and it can also be found in our snaffle bit bag collection. Versatile and useful the Governess has a roomy compartment along with a special flat zip compartment along its back wall. The front boasts a handy pocket for your phone or keys. Slip thru front closure and top stitched this cross body or off the shoulder, this bag speaks equestrian charm.
