Shipping & Receiving Associate

Freedman's is looking to hiring an enthusiastic and self-motivated Shipping and Receiving Associate at our Midway, Kentucky Boutique location. Join a fast-paced, yet rewarding environment with team members who are passionate about the horse industry. 

Position summary

Freedman’s in its 16th year as a retailer in the United States and has been manufacturing in Toronto, Canada since 1910. We are a luxury equestrian brand and the position requires the applicant to have a respect for high quality products and a basic understanding of the equine industry. Applicant will be responsible for a variety of tasks including picking, packing and processing orders for shipping high volumes of merchandise via parcel carrier or truck, receiving products and supplies, warehouse duties, inventory and database management. This position will require an employee to manage multiple tasks efficiently and effectively and be a self-starter. Essential Duties:
Shipping (75% Time):

  • Perform daily shipping duties efficiently and effectively with close attention to detail to ensure that ordered are properly picked, packed and shipped and arrive on time.
  • Manage shipping expenses to minimize packaging costs while ensuring excellent customer presentation.
  • Identify process improvements that will lead to greater efficiencies in shipping operations.
  • Assist in training new Team Members for shipping and receiving duties

Receiving (10% Time):

  • Unloading shipment from carrier and ensure that shipment reconciles with proper paperwork
  • Process received shipments according to written procedures
  • Identify process improvements that will lead to greater efficiencies in receiving operations

Warehousing (10%Time)

  • Provide input to Store Manager on ways to improve the warehouse to be more economical and efficient to pick and ship from
  • Monitor inventory levels and advises Store Manager of low inventory of products
  • Organize storage of products to facilitate efficient picking of products for shipping customer orders.
  • Work with all Team members to maintain a clean and orderly warehouse environment.
  • Assist with physical inventory counts

Other Duties (5% Time):

  • Leads physical packing and moving of product for Pop-up horse shows and other events according to Merchandising Plan provided by Store Manager.
  • May include travel to shows including driving merchandise and displays, setting up and tear down.
  • Stays familiar with all current and new products and their marketing plans

Qualifications

  • Prior shipping/receiving experience- required
  • Warehouse experience- required
  • Prior retail experience- preferred
  • Equestrian industry experience- preferred

Requirements

  • Professional appearance- business casual attire required
  • High level of organizational skills and ability to follow directions
  • Must be able to physically maneuver and handle racks and carts of merchandise
  • Standing and walking for long periods of time and climbing ladders
  • Lifting of up to 50 pounds may be required
  • Clean driving record- drivers license required

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
